in 1994 when green day first became famous, they invited pansy division, an openly gay punk band, to open for them for the entire dookie tour knowing full well the responses would be mixed. in 2016/2017, on their revolution radio tour, green day chose only female led punk bands to open for them to help create recognition for these artists in a male dominated scene. this band has always been using their voices for the right reasons and i love them so much for that.

If I’m not mistaken, there was a prom somewhere that was cancelled one time because a lesbian couple wanted to go, so Green Day rented a venue and had a prom for them. Not sure about accuracy, my mom told me about that
yes this is true as well!! green day helped to fund and organize this second prom when the first one was cancelled. the second prom was actually open not only to the students of the school, but also to any other lgbtq+ students as well as supporters in the state of mississippi who wanted to attend as well!!
we rarely see big figures in the industry come clean about what they did wrong, and even moreso in such a public way, so i thought i’d isolate this apology for everyone to listen to.
And I don’t mean that in like, some kind of exclusivity “you don’t deserve to be here” kind of thing. I mean that there’s a reason tumblr is 13+. It’s really not a good or healthy place for anyone under 13 to be on. I originally joined when I was barely 13 and I wish I had waited. I ran into so much traumatizing and frankly just viscerally disturbing content. I had so many adults that were completely inappropriate towards me, and so many other things that looking back just terrify me.
I’m not trying to baby anybody. I believe that many under-13-year-olds can handle a lot more than we give them credit for. But that doesn’t make tumblr a safe place for y’all to be. People on here are vicious and toxic and y’all don’t deserve to be worrying about all that on top of the other shit that people your age have to deal with.
Please, you have plenty of time. In the meantime, go post about things on chat/blogging sites that are better monitored to be safe for folks your age. Learn about the world in a safer environment and learn what kind of person you want to be. You’re still in such formative years of your life, please take advantage of them and spend them somewhere other than this hellhole. Then, when you’re 13 (or maybe a little older), come back and join tumblr. And make sure you know your boundaries, and that you enforce them.
