i would definitely agree that phil is the more reserved one, especially when it comes to any speculation of their relationship. so at the boncas when he won creator of the year and called dan up on stage with him it was a HUGE deal in the phandom. phil totally deserved that award- he’d been on youtube for almost 11 years at the point, he makes AMAZING and genuinely creative content, and he had done so much on his own along with the amazing things he has created with dan. but, this was supposed to be HIS award, not he AND dan’s award. They were both nominated SEPARATELY for creator of the year, not together.

so when phil won the award, he could have so easily just accepted it for himself and made it all about him (like it was supposed to be and like he deserved) but no- he shocked everyone. his statement “i’ve spent the majority of 2016 with another person, dan howell, so i think it’s only fair that he comes up here and shares this with me” is so significant. it shows that phil doesn’t take all the credit for his own success, even though he IS successful on his own. he was successful before he ever met dan, and even if he never met dan, he could have definitely continued that success on his own. but by inviting dan on stage, he was basically stating to the world that he wouldn’t be there without dan; he wouldn’t be nearly as successful or deserving of that award if he didn’t have dan by his side throughout it all. i know he only said “the majority of 2016” because they were on tour that year and were together literally every single day for months on end, but to me it meant something deeper. he’s spent the majority of his youtube career and his adult life with dan. dan is just a constant in his life, and he can’t see himself without him- definitely not winning such a huge award without him. think about it: basically every big award they’ve won, it’s been TOGETHER. so it must have felt really unnatural for phil to be winning something without his partner by his side.

so, he shared his success with the person who he cares about most in this world- the person he can’t see himself without. they even went as far on stage as to joke that the universe would rip in half if they stood further apart than a few feet.

moral of the story is, if phil’s boncas acceptance speech wasn’t the most obvious declaration of love and devotion that you’ve ever heard, you must not believe in love.
