author’s notes: i’m gonna say this: the pbb fic i wrote last year was shit, but i’m actually super proud of this one, and not in the congrats-you-actually-finished-it way, but in the wow-you-wrote-a-wholesome-piece-of-literature way. see, i want to go to my state’s art school to study literary arts. writing has always been something i loved, but it’s only been a passion of mine for the past two years or so, which is coincidentally how long i’ve been in and written for the phandom. anyway, i say this because i see phandom big bang as a way to push myself to be a better writer. it pushes me to deadlines that i would experience in real life if all goes to plan, and it pushes me to stretch my own abilities as an author. And with this little story, i think i accomplished that. i wrote something that i’m proud of the story i made, rather than of making anything at all.
to my team: thank you so so much for embarking on this journey with me. I know the process was tedious and i was m.i.a throughout most of it (due to my own issues), but you guys stuck through it and together we made the end result that is i’ll be starry eyed (for you).
julia: thank you so much for your kind words on the story and for being as passionate about comma usage as i am. as i sit here writing this, i’m still beaming at your most recent comments about the story (i can’t put into words my feelings about this story. It’s so poetic and sad and just wow). my one goal as a writer is to create something that’s “poetic and sad and just wow”, so thank you.
and jade: thank you for volunteering yourself to create art that coincides with my art. as i write this, i have yet to see what you’ve created, but i know it will be beautiful, as all of your other art that i’ve seen is. i cannot tell you how sorry i am for keeping this from you, but i am deeply grateful for your work. please continue to create what you do. (POST ART-VIEWING MADISON HERE SAYING THAT I AM IN LITERAL TEARS IT’S SO GOOD CAN U BELIEVE JADE INVENTED PHANART)

Intrigued by the odd happenings that no one else around him seems to notice, he befriends the man and discovers that not everything in this world is quite like it seems.

A/N: It’s finally time to post my PBB 2016 story. 😀 I’ve had the opportunity to work with @obsessed-not-possessed who made beautiful art for the story and @natskindacrisis who was an amazing beta and I’m so glad I did, they are absolutely lovely people and I really enjoyed working with them! So thank you guys. 💚 The idea for this story is based on a Weird fiction story called Reports of Certain Events in London by China Miéville. If you ever read that story, you’ll immediately see where I got the idea for this one from. It’s a great read if you have a few minutes to spare. So this is pretty different from the other stuff I usually write and was great to try out for once! Gentle reminder that this story will deal with unreality a lot. If that is something that makes you uncomfortable or causes anxiety, you may want to skip this story to better be safe than sorry. Hope you enjoy. 🙂 xLINK TO ART by fanficfanart (obsessed-not-possessed)
Dan knows the way to work like the back of his hand. It’s a fifteen-minute-long walk that he takes almost every day from his flat to that dingy diner he works at. He’s been walking this route for months now. So clearly he must be going insane or maybe he’s overworked, because there’s suddenly a new street he passes on his way home. It’s 2 a.m. and he’s tired. If he were drunk, he’d blame it on that; surely this street he’s seeing all of a sudden is just an illusion. It’s enticing, he feels like it pulls him in, calls him to enter unknown terrain. But when he tries to bring his legs to walk in that direction, it feels like he’s standing face first against a wall and can’t take another step forward. Dan shakes his head and continues his way back home, ready for a shower, as he smells of greasy cooking oil. He can’t wait to get in bed.

Phil Lester had never considered himself normal.
Maybe it was the sixth sense he was certain he possessed, or maybe it was just too much time spent watching television shows about vampires in his youth, but he’d always felt he saw more of the world than anyone else. Whether it be something lurking in the shadows or a ghostly trail on his neck that made the hairs on his arms stand up, Phil had never doubted that he was sharing his space with supernatural beings too.
He was very okay with that, and told everyone as much. Being friends with a vampire? A werewolf? What could possibly be better than that?
As time wore on though, so did Phil’s ideas. Between his parents and teachers insisting he just had a very vivid imagination, and his desire to actually fit in and make friends at secondary school, Phil learned to quash his sense of wandering amongst the supernatural, until he too believed he’d just been a creative child who learned to see sense.
And that was where he was now.
