resumespeak:

Leveraged an inventory of established fictional character and setting elements to generate a disruptive custom-curated narrative entertainment asset.

I worked in HR, handling applications and interviews, and if someone turned in that string of techno babble nonsense, I would have rejected them out of hand.

A resume doesn’t need to sound fancy or overly technical, it needs to tell us why we should hire you.

“Independent novelist/writer” is more than sufficient here. If you want to express the skills that fan fiction taught you, something like, “creative writing, editing, and publication,” will get you a lot further than… Whatever that just was.

A resume should be tailored to the position, if you can afford the time and energy for that. But if not, then just think about what writing got fandom taught you. How to respond to criticism, how to present a professional pubic face, how to correct punished mistakes, creative thinking, project planning, persuasion via emotional leverage, html formatting, office suite fluency.

There are a lot of actual, marketable skills that go into fan fiction.

green day releasing “back in the usa” and blatantly criticizing donald trump through the music video really makes me think of how this has all happened before with american idiot/george w bush and how this new song (even the title itself) LITERALLY sounds like green day cracking their knuckles and going like “bitch have you guys learned nothing since the last time we did this”

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.

Here you can find more news and all the details to contact your MEP:

Also, sign and share this petition:

We have just a couple of weeks to stop this complete madness, don’t let them dictating the way we enjoy our internet.

#SaveYourInternet now!

It’s funny how y’all will reblog any and all US things but when whole Europe might lose access to internet then everything is quiet.

@me-fish @residesatshamecentral What do we have to think about this?

@sweetss80 @me-fish good grief. Look, are we sure this is entirely true? How can anyone possibly protest to fanart? Gifsets, just possibly, under copyright, images, maybe, but how could they police edits? If you have seen my manips you would agree that no bot could identify the sources. I would want to make sure of the sources on this before accepting they could be so unreasonable about copyright or so dim as to think they could police it all.

I heard some right-wing website was spreading fake or exaggerated stories about something like this…lets check the sources first before assuming this is true.

not from Europe but this is some fucked up bullshit!!

shinelikethunder:

…well, that escalated quickly. I posted it way back at the end of 2014, it got reblogged by several BNFs in quick succession yesterday, and then it proceeded to rack up like 2,000 notes in one day, so apparently it still needs to be said:

Yes, you are allowed.

You are allowed to write the fic you want, rather than the fic you feel obligated to write. You’re allowed to write crack, crazy realism-defying stunts, self-indulgent trope fic, fucked-up fic about problematic people doing unhealthy things. Fic that doesn’t go through the pre-flight safety check for every swordfight and every BDSM scene, fic that glosses over the ugly real-life fallout of psychological trauma and/or jumping out of a quinjet without a parachute. Or, hey, if that’s your thing, fic that dwells on psychological trauma in loving, messy detail and has at least three punchlines about characters not being able to defy the laws of physics. Any of those things! All those things! We contain multitudes!

Any fic you write is probably going to be a net positive for fandom. The people who were looking for something in your niche get it, the people who didn’t know they wanted something in your niche discover a new thing they like, the people who don’t like it click the back button, the people who really really hate that entire genre of fic get to stroke their hateboners and get high off their own self-righteousness.

If it upsets people? The back button is a failsafe and instantaneous safeword. If it’s not as ~quality~ as other people’s fic? Don’t make me break out that “holy shit! TWO cakes!” comic. If someone takes away a disturbing, unhealthy, or otherwise less-than-wholesome message from your fic? You are not responsible for their failures of critical thinking or reading comprehension, to say nothing of those reading with outright malice looking for something to pounce on after interpreting it as uncharitably as humanly possible. Jesus fucking christ, it’s fanfiction, if people legit want sex ed they should be on Scarleteen. It’s not your job to educate them, certainly not with your fic. It’s not. It’s not. Fic serves so many other purposes. You are allowed to write what you want.

cassderolo:

elves on the two-sun planet are different than elves on faerun.

taako always knew he was a little different. there was the tail, most obviously. it wasn’t entirely unheard of—sometimes people of all races were just born with tails, evidence of a near gnome ancestor. taako was pretty sure he didn’t have any gnomes in the family true. whatever, though. not like he was close with his family, anyway.

(they all had tails, too. but as far as he knew, he was just estranged from them; nothing more. they were out there, somewhere, alive and tailless.)

the eyes stood out next.

“i’ve never met an elf with purple eyes before,” magnus commented the second first time they met. “is that a glamour?”

taako grinned. “nah, this is all taako. part of the brand.”

(magnus had met at least two elves with purple eyes, actually.)

the rest of the exterior differences were subtle. his eyes were a little too high, too far apart; his neck a little too long; his hands a little too spindly. it was nothing so out of the ordinary as to mark him as immediately alien, but—it marked him as different. people stared. it became part of his image, his undeniably unique charm.

(there was one more thing he never put enough thought into. “cross my heart,” sazed had said to him once; and he drew an X over the left side of his chest. taako laughed. “that’s not where the heart is!”. when sazed brought up proof that he was right, the argument slid away from taako and was replaced by static.)

he had to give up his unique looks. his body was to become normal.

he let it happen. his tail left, which was alarming as hell. he glanced over at magnus and merle. “what else is happening?” he demanded.

magnus frowned. “your eyes…”

“what?”

“they’re grey, taako,” merle said gently.

he could feel the changes happening, feel his face sliding around. he reached up and felt his nose get smaller, cheekbones lower, eyes a little closer together. his brows thinned out, and his jaw narrowed just slightly. the changes stopped.

he sighed, preparing to cast disguise self.

his chest erupted in the most blinding pain he had ever felt.

“fuck!” he collapsed on the ground, curling up and screaming and clutching his chest.

“taako!” merle or magnus or both yelled, running over and kneeling next to him. magnus was clutching at him tightly while merle muttered prayers that he knew wouldn’t work.

“what the fuck did you do?” magnus demanded.

a shadow fell over his face, and taako glanced up to see the vogue elves standing above him with frowns on their faces that did nothing to decrease his panic.

“well,” edward said.

“that’s not supposed to happen!” lydia finished.

(the pain went away a minute later, but taako wouldn’t be able to explain it for a few days. having all of your organs flip sides, it turns out, isn’t the funnest experience.)
