How and why Phandom Gives came about

phandomgives:

As a fandom and internet veteran (at almost 30) I have grown up in fandoms that have a charity component. From Harry Potter, to Glee to One Direction, fans have been raising money for some amazing causes. I have been considering for months the fact that there was no charity drive the Phandom (that I am aware of).

Recently Dan and Phil’s charity work was being discussed. I felt that as a fandom we could be doing more ourselves. I bit the bullet and set everything up to see what the appetite would be for the project. Everyone has surpassed my expectations -see me setting the original goal as £310.00! Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared, it means a lot. Thank you to @psychicmoth for the amazing branding.

I chose Just Giving because the money goes directly to the charities.
According to their website “We automatically transfer donations to the chosen charity on a weekly basis (or, if the total donated to that particular charity on JustGiving is under £100, we wait until the end of the month). We do this so that charities don’t have to wait too long to start putting the funds raised towards their amazing work.” Further details can be found here

Please continue to share and donate where you can as Make a Wish is an amazing cause. Clickable Link to donate!

P.S. Dan’s birthday drive is already open raising money for Young Minds but I’ll do a full announcement in February. Feel free to donate now but we do have until June for his one 🙂

whenever a scifi or fantasy series establishes any characters as species with exceptionally disparate lifespans there is ALWAYS going to be that one piece of sequential fanart with no dialogue that just shows the group getting smaller and smaller until it’s just the resident pseudo-immortal sitting all alone and it’s so predictable but it still gets you every fuckening time you see it

How it Probably Happened

Bob the animator: “Ok, so, there’s gonna be a broken piece of a sign that says ‘KL’ on it. Can you draw that?”

Frank the animator: “Yeah, sure, how’s this look?”

Bob the animator: “Well, if it was ACTUALLY a broken piece of a sign that says ‘Klondike,’ it wouldn’t have a big gap after the letters, but whatever. We can fix it in the closeup.”

Frank the animator: “Uh… ok. Shouldn’t I change it in the first shot?”

Bob the animator: “Nah, leave it, but give the new one some wood texture, and make it smaller… oh, and change the lengths of the spikes. The kids won’t notice.”

image

Frank the animator: “More like this?”

Bob the animator: “Yeah, yeah! And for the final scene, make it REALLY big, and remove the texture, and… heck, make it two spikes instead of three. Two is better.”

image

Frank the animator: “Alright, it’s done. Are you sure no one will ever notice all these haphazard, illogical changes?”

Bob the animator: “Yeah! I mean, what, do you think someone’s gonna take photos and put them on a blog with 21,227 followers some day? That would be ridiculous.”

…holy crap, this old post’s notes are almost at 300k!

I hope it finally goes over the edge, that’d be such a cool milestone for a piece of SDM history.
