all those ‘how dare you criticise love, simon just bc the author is a cishet woman!!! it’s revolutionary rep!!’ posts are giving me migraines ladies like I’m going to go see it, it should be fun, but I can also criticise the author of the book considering if any of you have read it you’ll know she takes a very sexy pro-fetishisation stance when it comes to gay/bi ppl and I’m allowed to think that’s ugly ! simon literally thinks:
And, ofc, he compares straight girls reading slash to the way men fetishise wlw (and views both positively, ofc) so that’s also fun. like she does some things right & im gonna go see it but please can we avoid those annoying ‘how dare you criticise this cishet author who is an angel who does no wrong’ posts it’s aging me physically
friend. as an author. please let me tell you. please. that CHARACTER’S VIEWPOINTS. DO NOT REFLECT THE AUTHOR’S. the author of this book actually worked with TONS of lgbt teens in making it and just because one character is kinda dumb when it comes to one issue doesn’t mean that the author shares that viewpoint or that you should ditch the movie or the book!
