like i know most people got this already

but just to add my points

-she pretty obviously find the (blue or not) pictures and such of women around her house attractive (the lamps especially point to this)

-she also repeatedly thinks about how cool clarissa is and “likes” her

-the “boy she likes” is johnathan taylor thomas, who i have heard was pretty popular in the 90s

-while she probably couldn’t be this analytical about it, it’s pretty likely she chose him as her “crush” because 1 he’s a celebrity and thus unattainable (so no pressure to try to go after him) and 2 because (even if she doesn’t have many friends, which seems to be the case) she would know he’s popular with other girls, both reasons which would let her seem “normal” aka heterosexual to herself and peers without having to really perform heterosexuality

-being a 14 year old in 1994 with very little friends if any (so, she’s sheltered) she may not even know being attracted to other girls is a possibility for herself, which is pretty much confirmed when she was surprised that xefros was a boy who liked another boy

-while alternia and troll society’s romance setup is a discussion i’m not totally going to get into now, the more important part of it is that romantic and other feelings are not seen as limited by gender so it’s very likely she might have a gay awakening while on alternia

-possibly even with the “fan” she and xefros are going to meet in presumably act 2, or maybe with another female character (which the game needs more of)

so, tldr: joey claire is a closeted lesbian and hiveswap will partially be about her literal journey coming out
