We all remember things like fatigue and dehydration when walking out dogs in the summer months but we don’t think of their feet. A dog’s feet are more sensitive than you think they are.
Touch the ground with your palm for a good 5 seconds.
If it’s noticeably hot, your dog should not be walking on it.
(Dogs hide pain much better than humans do and put up with a lot, it’s better to be safe than sorry, possibly hurting their poor feet.)
Please consider only walking your dogs in the morning or late afternoon during the summer months to avoid this. Other alternatives are only walking them on grass, picking them up when you get to a hot area if you can, and/or get them some doggy shoes (I know it sounds silly but its seriously painful for your dog to walk on hot concrete. Get them some damn shoes if you have to.)
I remembered this when walking my dog Brutis the other day. I wasn’t even thinking about it. All of a sudden he was walking very slow, trailing way behind me, and I wasn’t sure why. All of a sudden he stopped and started to pick up his feet. I realized his feet must have been burning on the hot cement. Luckily he’s a small dog so I just picked him up and carried him home but we don’t all have this luxury. I felt so bad. Don’t make this mistake. (This also applies to any other animal you walk as well.)
Please think of the feets! ♥

One note about doggy shoes: Dogs sweat through their paw pads. So, if you buy your dog shoes, make sure they’re ones that breathe. The wrong shoes can actually do more harm than good.
